Berkeley Lab is hiring an Electrician to support a matrixed division. Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor, the Electrician will install, test, inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical equipment, including electrical distribution systems and building utility support. The role may alsoinvolve installing and modifying office and research areas as needed.

What You Will Do:

Low Voltage Electrician (<600V)

• Troubleshoot and repair control systems like energy management and variable frequency drives.
• Install, test, modify, and maintain electrical components, including circuit breakers, controls, motors, and wiring devices.
• Fabricate parts, terminate cables, and install cableways and raceways.
• Interpret prints, schematics, and project requirements.
• Follow safety protocols, promote workplace health and safety, and comply with LBL's safety and environmental policies.
• Report hazardous conditions, stop work in danger situations, and maintain chemical inventories.
• Apply National Electric Code and LBL specifications for compliant installations and safe work practices (NFPA 70E).
• Available for extended hours, emergency callbacks, and weekend/holiday work.
• Assist High Voltage Electricians as needed for planned/emergency work.

What is Required:

• Completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent electrical training program, with 4+ years of journey-level industrial electrical maintenance/installation experience in chemical, power, or industrial plant environments.
• Valid California Driver's license and computer proficiency for record keeping and report writing.
• State Certified Electrician or ability to become CA Certified within 12 months of hire.
• Experience with field installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of motors, VFDs, and motor control systems.
• Proficient with portable tools (drills, grinders, saws) and able to perform tasks with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of NFPA 70E, OSHA 1910.269, NEC, ANSI, IEEE, IEC, NETA-MTS, UL standards, and electrical construction codes.
• Experience with wire pulling, termination, and fabricating electrical systems.
• Strong communication skills, able to work in a team and with customers effectively.
• Proficient with metering devices (continuity testers, ammeters, multimeters).
• Physical ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Available for emergency response outside regular hours, including weekends and holidays.
• Able to work safely and efficiently with minimal supervision.

Desired Qualifications:

• NFPA CESW Certified.
• Experience with building automation systems, boilers, controls, and lighting controls.
• Familiar with research equipment and energy management control systems.
• Previous Service Technician experience in LEED buildings for energy management or lighting control systems.

Notes:

• This is a full-time career appointment, non-exempt (hourly paid) from overtime pay.
• This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.
• The rate for this position is $65.71/hour. Salary for this position is predetermined based on collective bargaining agreements set rates.
