JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Tribal CanyonCoordinator will assist the department performing administrative duties as assigned while offering support to the Visitor Center, Tahquitz Canyon and Indian Canyon teams.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned)

  • Assists the Department staff as required.
  • Assist enteringtime cards
  • Assist with credit card billings, expense reports, and purchasing.
  • Assists in ad hoc projects as defined by the department head
  • Produce and edit a wide range of documents using various software programs. Copy, distribute and file as required, while maintaining a professional and secure work station.
  • Performs clerical duties such as typing, filing, proofreading and sorting mail.
  • Assists in daily department operations.
While working at the Tollgate/Canyons
  • Keeps accurate count of visitors entering the Canyons.
  • Keeps an accurate count of money received, number of passes and maps sold.
  • Keep tollgate stocked with brochures, maps, season passes, and other supplies needed to run the tollgate.
  • Keeps the tollgate clean.
  • Act as on site information officer, give interpretive talks, and lead visitors on scheduled interpretive hikes in Indian and Tahquitz Canyons.
  • Provide information to visitors on the Cahuilla people and their use of the canyons, the relationship between the people and the geography, geology, the flora, and fauna of the canyons.
While working at Tahquitz Canyon/Visitor Center
  • Handles all incoming calls.
  • Greets all incoming visitors.
  • Provides information on Indian and Tahquitz Canyons and other Tribal business entities.
  • Maintains office security by speaking to visitors and determining their business.
  • Sells discount tickets to Indian and Tahquitz Canyons.
  • Makes reservations for Ranger led hikes in Tahquitz Canyon.
  • Issues coupons to various Tribal business entities.
  • Keeps an accurate count on visitors entering Tahquitz Canyon
  • Keeps an accurate count of money and tickets sold
Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of High School Diploma; or GED.
  • One year experience in retail or customer service.
  • Must possess general knowledge of the Indian, Tahquitz Canyons, and surrounding tourist attractions.
  • Ability to use 10 key calculator and cash register.
  • Must be able to communicate well and interact with large groups of people.
  • Skilled hiker in desert and mountainous terrain.
  • Must possess exceptional people skills, excellent customer skills, telephone skills, and the ability to deal with multiple guest personalities
