Overview

Director, Product and Market Strategy NGS – onsite in San Jose, CA. The role is expected to involve approximately 30% travel and some international travel may be required.

Location: San Jose, CA 95131, United States. Salary range: $220,000 - $230,000 USD. Reports to: VP, Marketing. FLSA: Exempt.

What you will do

  • The Director, Product and Market Strategy NGS leads strategic initiatives and product management to drive global growth and innovation of Takara Bio's Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) solutions.
  • Oversees the full product lifecycle, including phase gate alignment, go-to-market planning, and tactical marketing execution, primarily for North America.
  • Manages strategic partnerships, collaborations, and business ventures, negotiating contracts and tracking performance metrics to ensure sustained market growth and impact.
  • Translates scientific and market insights into actionable strategies to enable short- and long-term growth through targeted campaigns, development of sales enablement tools, and cross-functional initiatives that support commercialization and adoption of NGS technologies.
  • Leads a high-performing team of product managers to deliver customer-centric solutions addressing real-world research challenges and delivering measurable value.
  • Guides development and launch of impactful products, optimizes portfolio performance, and ensures creation of targeted messaging and promotional activities that resonate with key market segments.
  • Aligns scientific innovation with strategic business execution to expand Takara Bio's reach and accelerate growth in a rapidly evolving genomics landscape.

Responsibilities and functions

  • Product Management & Commercialization: Leads and mentors a team across multiple product lines, oversees product lifecycle, development timelines, and resource allocation for NGS-related projects.
  • Collaborates with R&D Directors and cross-functional teams to prioritize and execute product roadmaps aligned with strategic goals.
  • Tracks product development projects and leads the team through challenges including timelines, technical risks, vendors, shifting requirements, resource limitations, and cost.
  • Ensures all aspects of lifecycle management are met, including market research, NPVs, new product proposals, marketing requirements, go-to-market strategies, product launches, and sales enablement initiatives.
  • Works cross-functionally with Takara Bio Product Management, R&D, Operations, and commercial/executive teams to bring roadmaps to life and implement corporate strategies.
  • Conducts product line reviews and post-launch assessments to optimize performance.
  • Market Strategy & Business Growth: Leads commercial activities of assigned market areas, serves as domain knowledge expert on market trends, applications, information affecting the business, competition, and marketplace strategy.
  • Builds business cases and financial models for growth opportunities and presents to Senior Management for Go/No-Go decisions.
  • Strategic Partnerships & Ventures: Identifies, evaluates, and develops sponsored research programs, partnerships, and/or acquisitions; defines collaboration requirements and aligns external opportunities with internal capabilities.
  • Marketing & Sales Enablement: Partners with Sales to set budgets and achieve targets; develops tactical marketing plans and campaigns to drive lead generation and revenue; creates product messaging and sales tools; delivers market-focused training for internal teams and distributors; analyzes campaign performance to improve ROI; represents Takara Bio at industry events.

What you bring

  • Requires a BA or BS degree; MS and/or PhD considered favorably.
  • Minimum of 18 years of experience in product marketing for life science or related markets, with at least 10 years in managing a marketing team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated presentation proficiency.
  • Detailed and broad knowledge of the NGS field, including techniques, applications, and competitors.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and judgment abilities with experience managing senior-level teams.
  • Track record of developing product roadmaps and business strategies to drive growth and impact.
  • Experience managing external partnerships/collaborations; solid business acumen and ability to design products meeting market needs.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills; excellent interpersonal skills; collaborative team player who can build credibility across functions.
  • Reputation as an emerging business leader with sustained performance and accomplishments.
