Under the direction of the Cultural Heritage Director, the Cultural Youth Program Coordinator develops, coordinates, and supports culturally grounded programs for Tribal youth that strengthen identity, cultural knowledge, leadership, and intergenerational relationships. This position centers traditional knowledge, community teachings, and lived cultural experience as core qualifications. The Coordinator works closely with Elders, cultural practitioners, families, schools, and Tribal departments to create safe, meaningful learning spaces where youth engage with language, history, land, foods, arts, games, and ceremonial knowledge.
This role prioritizes cultural responsibility, mentorship, and relationship-building over formal academic credentials.

Program Development & Coordination
• Design and coordinate youth programs rooted in traditional knowledge, cultural practices, and community values.
• Plan and support youth participation in cultural events such as Powwow, Rodeo, Cultural Days, workshops, and seasonal gatherings.
• Develop intergenerational learning opportunities connecting youth with Elders, language speakers, and cultural practitioners.
• Coordinate after-school, weekend, and summer cultural programming as needed.

Youth Engagement & Mentorship
• Serve as a mentor and positive role model for Tribal youth.
• Support youth leadership development and cultural confidence.
• Foster a safe, respectful environment that honors cultural protocols and community values.
• Communicate regularly with families and caregivers regarding youth participation and activities.

Collaboration & Partnerships
• Work collaboratively with the Cultural Heritage, Language, Education, and Community Programs teams.
• Coordinate with local schools, youth programs, and community partners to support culturally aligned activities.
• Collaborate with Environmental and Planning departments when youth programming involves land-based learning or site visits.

Administration & Reporting
• Maintain program schedules, participation records, and basic reports.
• Support outreach and communication related to youth programs.

Cultural Stewardship
• Uphold cultural protocols, confidentiality, and respect for sacred knowledge.
• Ensure cultural accuracy and appropriateness in all youth programming.
• Represent the Cultural Resources Department in a positive and respectful manner.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required
• College coursework or degree in education, Native/Indigenous studies, social work, or a related field may be considered but is not required. Cultural knowledge, community trust, and lived experience may substitute for formal education.

One of the following is required:
• Demonstrated cultural knowledge, traditional teachings, and lived experience within the Tribal community OR
• Experience working with Tribal or Indigenous youth in cultural, educational, or community settings
Formal education is not required if the applicant demonstrates strong cultural knowledge, community involvement, and experience working with youth.

• Experience coordinating youth, cultural, or community programs
• Experience working with Elders, cultural practitioners, or language speakers
• Familiarity with Tribal history, traditions, and cultural protocols
• Experience supporting youth at community events or cultural gatherings

• Valid California Driver's License and insurability on Morongo's vehicle policy
