Definition:Under administrative direction, plans, organizes, directs, and reviews the operations and activities of the Engineer Division; assigns, supervises and reviews the work of professional and technical employees; approves plans and specifications; manages the Citys Capital Improvement Program. Distinguishing Characteristics:The City Engineer is the management level class responsible for organizing, directing, and reviewing the operations and activities of the Engineer Division. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Public Works Director in that the latter has overall responsibility for the entire department. Supervision received and exercised:Receives administrative direction from the Public Works Director and exercises direct and indirect supervision over professional, technical, office support and field personnel.
