Position Overview The Senior Front-End Engineer drives technical excellence and innovation across our organization. This role combines deep front-end expertise with architectural vision - focusing on building scalable, performant, and elegant user experiences while fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration.
About the Calendar Platform Team Modern HR and payroll systems are full of date-driven events — time off, shift schedules, payroll deadlines, holidays, compliance tasks, and more. But too often, these critical timelines are scattered across disconnected tools, creating confusion for employees and friction for businesses. At Paylocity, the Calendar Platform Team is building the foundational time layer that brings it all together. We own the central calendar infrastructure that powers experiences across our entire product ecosystem — used by dozens of internal teams and millions of end-users.What We're Building Our mission is to make time-based data consistent, contextual, and actionable across the platform. We're not just building UI components — we're building a Calendar-as-a-Platform, combining reusable front-end libraries with robust APIs that other teams can easily plug into. Primary Responsibilities Core Responsibilities
Design and implement modular, scalable, and maintainable front-end architectures
Drive best practices for UI performance, accessibility, and component reusability
Collaborate with UX/UI designers to deliver pixel-perfect, intuitive experiences
Lead and participate in front-end technical design discussions and code reviews
Champion high-impact technical initiatives that elevate the user experience
Ensure code quality through testing, automation, and continuous improvement
Partner with back-end and platform engineers to define efficient APIs and data flows
Balance short-term delivery with long-term architectural vision
Growth & Leadership
Mentor engineers across experience levels, especially in front-end best practices
Foster an inclusive, collaborative culture that values craftsmanship and learning
Build alignment on technical strategy across teams and departments
Communicate technical decisions clearly and constructively
Help evolve front-end standards, tooling, and developer experience
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience
5+ years of software engineering experience, with strong emphasis on front-end development
Proven track record of leading significant front-end initiatives or architecture
Technical Experience Required
Deep expertise in ReactJS (or a comparable modern framework such as Vue or Angular, with willingness to work in React)
Strong proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS
Experience building highly interactive, responsive, and performant UIs
Understanding of modern API integration patterns (REST, GraphQL, etc.)
Familiarity with unit testing, integration testing, and automation tools
Strong understanding of front-end architecture, state management, and modular design
Experience working in agile, cross-functional teams
Commitment to clean, maintainable, and efficient code
Nice to Have
Hands-on experience with any back-end language (e.g., .NET, Node.js, Python, Java, Go, etc.)
Familiarity with cloud services (AWS preferred)
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices
Knowledge of observability and monitoring tools (Datadog, Prometheus, etc.)
Experience with mobile development using React Native or shared component libraries
Physical requirements:
Ability to sit for extended periods: The role requires sitting at a desk or workstation for long periods, typically 7-8 hours a day.
Use of computer and phone systems: The employee must be able to operate a computer, use phone systems and type. This includes using multiple software programs and inquiries simultaneously.
