Summary:

The Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) - Colorado is a senior technical role responsible for the execution, quality assurance, and professional oversight of survey deliverables supporting Ascent Geomatics Solutions' renewable energy and general survey programs. Whileanchored in Colorado, this role supports a portfolio of projects across multiple U.S. states, with licensure coverage coordinated at the company level to meet project needs.

This position is focused on survey-phase execution and technical ownership, with a strong emphasis on ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, boundary resolution, and title-intensive work commonly associated with large-scale development. The Professional Land Surveyor works closely with the Director of Survey and survey staff to maintain throughput, quality, and defensibility across active workloads, including coordination of survey-phase activities for complex projects.

This is not a department management role. The Professional Land Surveyor is expected to provide professional technical guidance to survey technicians as part of normal practice, but does not carry formal supervisory responsibility.

The ideal candidate is a Colorado-licensed Professional Land Surveyor with strong ALTA experience, sound technical judgment, and the ability to manage complex survey workloads in a collaborative, non-corporate environment.

Expected Results in the role:

  • Survey deliverables are accurate, defensible, and delivered on schedule across a portfolio of active projects.
  • ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys are executed, reviewed, and certified with consistent quality, minimizing rework, client comments, and downstream risk.
  • Boundary resolution, title review, and related survey documentation are completed with sound professional judgment and clear supporting records.
  • Field data and survey documentation are complete, accurate, and processed in accordance with established standards and QA/QC expectations.
  • Survey-phase activities are coordinated effectively to support efficient execution and timely handoff to downstream project phases.
  • Survey technicians receive clear technical guidance and task direction in support of quality, efficiency, and schedule performance.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Technical Execution & Certification
  • Perform professional review, QA/QC, and certification of survey deliverables, including ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, plats, boundary exhibits, and related documentation, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and client requirements.
  • Support ALTA execution by reviewing requirements, resolving technical issues, and ensuring deliverables meet contractual and professional standards.
  • Prepare or modify survey exhibits and ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys in AutoCAD Civil 3D on a limited, as-needed basis to support project delivery, QA/QC, and schedule commitments.
Boundary Analysis & Resolution
  • Perform boundary resolution and title-intensive survey work, including legal and record research, interpretation of survey records, and resolution of boundary conflicts for assigned projects.
  • Ensure boundary determinations and supporting documentation are complete, defensible, and clearly documented.
Field Data Review & Quality Control
  • Review field data and survey records for completeness, accuracy, and consistency, identifying deficiencies and coordinating corrections as needed.
  • Ensure survey data, records, and deliverables are processed, organized, and stored in accordance with company standards and QA/QC requirements.
Project Coordination & Technical Support
  • Coordinate survey-phase activities for assigned projects, including task sequencing, information flow, and technical alignment with project requirements.
  • Support timely handoff of survey deliverables to downstream project phases through clear documentation and coordination.
Technical Guidance & Collaboration
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to survey technicians supporting assigned projects, including task clarification, feedback on work quality, and assistance with problem resolution.
  • Collaborate with internal project teams as needed to support efficient execution of survey work.
Standards & Continuous Improvement
  • Assist with the consistent application and refinement of survey standards, workflows, and QA/QC procedures to support repeatable, high-quality outcomes.
General Duties
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the scope and responsibilities of the role as needed to support project and team objectives.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • This position does not have formal personnel management responsibilities.
  • The Professional Land Surveyor provides technical guidance, task direction, and work review for survey technicians supporting assigned projects.
Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of land surveying principles, practices, and regulations, with demonstrated experience in boundary surveying and professional certification of survey deliverables.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing, executing, and certifying ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, including interpretation of survey requirements and coordination of supporting documentation.
  • Strong technical proficiency in boundary analysis, legal and record research, title review, and resolution of boundary issues.
  • Practical experience reviewing and QA/QC'ing survey data and deliverables to ensure accuracy, completeness, and defensibility prior to certification.
  • Working knowledge of modern surveying technologies and workflows, including GPS/GNSS systems, total stations, and survey data processing environments.
  • Ability to provide clear technical guidance and task direction to survey technicians supporting assigned projects.
  • Sound professional judgment and problem-solving ability, particularly when balancing technical accuracy, defensibility, and schedule demands across multiple active projects.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to coordinate survey-phase activities and maintain clarity across parallel workloads.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and maintain accountability for assigned work without the need for heavy oversight.
Preferred Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to draft survey exhibits and ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys in AutoCAD Civil 3D when needed to support project execution and quality.
  • Ability to support large-scale or high-volume ALTA survey programs with consistent quality and defensible results.
  • Ability to apply boundary and title judgment effectively in renewable energy, infrastructure, or utility-scale development projects.
  • Ability to coordinate survey work across multiple jurisdictions or support projects in states beyond Colorado, with licensure coverage handled at the company level.
  • Familiarity with survey data processing and drafting environments such as Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or comparable platforms.
  • Exposure to GIS concepts and data formats (e.g., shapefiles, geodatabases, KMZ/KML) and experience coordinating survey data for downstream use.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in multi-discipline project environments where survey data supports engineering design, permitting, or regulatory submissions.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive professional surveying experience, including significant responsibility for ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys and professional review and certification of survey deliverables.
  • Demonstrated experience performing boundary analysis and title-related survey work, including legal and record research and defensible boundary determination.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting survey projects from planning through delivery, including review of field data, QA/QC, and coordination of survey-phase activities.
Preferred Education, Certifications, and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting high-volume or portfolio-based ALTA survey programs.
  • Experience working on survey projects across multiple jurisdictions or coordinating survey deliverables in states beyond Colorado.
  • Experience supporting renewable energy, infrastructure, or large-scale development projects

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time, including regular use of a keyboard, mouse, and monitors.
Other Need-to-know items:
  • Remote work is acceptable.
  • Standard work hours are Monday-Friday, generally aligned to Mountain Standard Time (MST), to support collaboration with clients and internal teams. Flexibility is supported within continental U.S. time zones, provided core team availability and communication are maintained.
  • Travel may be required on occasion for team collaboration, training, or project support.
