Duties: The Community Relations Specialist is responsible for conceptualizing, developing and facilitating the implementation of projects related to commitment to community relationsand being a valued neighbor in those communities that HACLA serves. This position requires close coordination and communication with Department Heads. The incumbent is required to work successfully with staff representing elected officials, representatives from the public housing community includingbut not limited to businesses, community based organizations and neighborhood representatives for all fourteen public housing developments. This position strives to achieve fulfillment of its community relations mission to the greatest extent practicable.

Nature of Work & Essential Functions:
- Works in partnership with residents and advocates within the public housing community.
- Assist the Department Head to develop and promote community relations & opportunities.
- Represents the Authority at community meetings.
- Works on behalf of Director(s) to develop community relations, plans and promote new and ongoing initiatives.
- Collaborates and coordinates with other operating units as needed.

Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment or out in the field in Community settings. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and abilities would be:Education: Bachelor's degree in public health, social work or related field.
Experience: 3 years of responsible experience in community work; Bilingual Spanish preferred.

*Pension Plan:
- HACLAretirement plan is the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). Vesting is five (5) years.
- For Classic members, the pension formula is 2.7% at 55 with members contributing 8% of their wages towards their retirement.
- For PEPRA members, the pension formula is 2% at 62, with members contributing 7.75% of their wages towards their retirement.
- CalPERS will make the determination regarding the type of membership for which the eligible employee will qualify.

- Annual leave accruals vary, depending upon the type of job/position (membership in employee organizational group) and years of service. Length of service increases accrual rates by employee organizational group when service requirements are met.
