A well-established, top-rated California law firm specializing in public sector legal services is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Trial Attorney. The firm provides legal counsel and representation to municipalities, counties, and public safety organizations across the state. Attorneys in the firm possess deep expertise in areas such as municipal law, civil rights litigation, code enforcement, and public agency receiverships. The practice regularly acts as special counsel to dozens of law enforcement entities and has represented clients in complex litigation at all levels of the judicial system, including the U.S. Supreme Court.
Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Civil Trial Attorney to manage a high-stakes, semi-autonomous caseload. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of ten (10) years of civil litigation experience, with the ability to handle cases from pre-litigation through appeal. First-chair trial experience is essential, including at least ten (10) jury trials and five (5) bench trials to verdict in California State Superior Courts.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all phases of civil litigation, including investigation, pleadings, discovery, motion practice, trial preparation, courtroom representation, and post-trial work.
• Conduct and manage legal research, case analysis, and development of litigation strategy.
• Draft and respond to motions, pleadings, and discovery; prepare for and conduct depositions.
• Lead settlement discussions, mediations, and negotiations.
• Attend hearings, trials, depositions, and other legal proceedings.
• Regularly communicate with clients and stakeholders to provide case updates and strategic guidance.
• Stay current with relevant laws, legal trends, and court rulings that may impact cases or clients.
• Work collaboratively with legal teams while also managing cases independently.

• Employment Type: Full-time, Hybrid
• Location: Initial onboarding period (first 2 weeks) in-person; hybrid remote thereafter with occasional on-site meetings. Must be local to Southern California.
• Salary Range: $200,000 - $225,000 annually

• Proven track record of trial litigation, including:
  
  • Jury selection and voir dire
  • Selection and management of expert witnesses
  • Trial preparation and courtroom advocacy
• Strong command of civil litigation topics, including:
  
  • Government tort liability, personal injury, contract disputes, and public entity defense
• Familiarity with California Superior and U.S. Federal Courts, as well as relevant administrative procedures
• Expertise in legal writing, legal research, and argument development
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities
• Ability to work both autonomously and within a collaborative legal team
• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
• Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California
