Description:

The Tech I - Entertainment is responsible for assisting in the setup, operation, and breakdown of entertainment equipment used for concerts, special events, and productions at Morongo Casino Resort & Spa. This position supports the Entertainment Technical team by handling staging equipment, lighting, sound, video, and instruments, while ensuring a safe and efficient working environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Loads and unloads production and artist equipment from transport trucks before and after events.
  • Assists with the setup and teardown of lighting, sound, video, and musical equipment for concerts and special events.
  • Operates sound and lighting equipment during performances under supervision or special circumstances.
  • Assists with general maintenance, cleaning, and organization of entertainment equipment and event areas.
  • Ensures all tasks are completed according to safety standards and production timelines.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may provide guidance or support to other team members.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to follow directions and safely handle tools, cables, and production equipment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to remain organized and professional in fast-paced and high-pressure environments.
  • Willingness to work non-standard hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Technical training or coursework in audio, lighting, stagecraft, or entertainment technology is a plus.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in technical theater, live event production, or A/V setup and operation.
  • Basic knowledge of sound, lighting, video, and stage equipment.
  • Ability to assist with load-ins, setups, strikes, and maintenance of entertainment equipment.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and willingness to follow protocols in a fast-paced environment.
  • Prior experience in a casino, theater, concert venue, or live entertainment setting is preferred.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must have successfully completed a background check and obtained a gaming license issued by the Morongo Gaming Agency, as required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to read and interpret documents in English, such as instructions, guidelines, policies, and procedures. Must also be able to communicate clearly and effectively with team members, management, and guests.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Communication Skills: Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally with team members, performers, and supervisors in person and via radio; must be able to follow technical instructions and respond promptly to cues or direction during event setup and execution.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Frequently lifts, carries, and transports lighting fixtures, sound equipment, cabling, and stage props weighing up to 50 pounds; may assist with heavier items using carts or team assistance.
  • Manual Dexterity: Regularly uses hands and fingers to connect and adjust cables, set up microphones, operate lighting or audio gear, and handle tools for staging or equipment rigging.
  • Mobility: Frequently walks, climbs ladders, crouches, kneels, and moves through tight or elevated spaces such as catwalks and backstage areas; must be physically agile and able to respond quickly in a fast-paced live environment.
  • Stationary Work: Occasionally remains seated during show operation or while monitoring systems; may sit during prep or equipment testing phases.
  • Tool Operation: Regular use of hand tools, A/V equipment, lighting consoles, cabling systems, power tools, and basic rigging tools; responsible for following safety procedures during use.
  • Visual Acuity: Requires good near and distance vision, depth perception, and color recognition to monitor lighting effects, verify sound levels, and ensure equipment is properly connected and functioning.
  • Working Conditions: Routinely works in entertainment venues with exposure to loud noise, flashing lights, fog/haze effects, high elevations, confined backstage areas, and a smoking environment in or around casino or public event spaces.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This is a dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires the ability to adapt and perform under pressure. The casino operates with moderate to loud noise levels and is a smoking environment, requiring team members to work comfortably in these conditions.

WORKING HOURS:

Morongo Casino Resort & Spa operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; therefore, flexibility in scheduling is essential. Team members must be available to work shifts that may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. Schedules are subject to change based on business needs and may include overtime, as well as work on both weekdays and weekends.
