As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Accounting to join our team. This leadership role is based in our Albany, Oregon office and will play a critical role in overseeing accounting operations, ensuring financial integrity, and supporting organizational growth.

While this position is primarily on-site, we will consider highly qualified candidates open to a hybrid arrangement, working remotely for up to three weeks per month, with one week on-site in Albany, OR.

Position Summary:

The Director of Accounting is responsible for overseeing the monthly close cycle, trial balance reconciliations, financial statement creation, and other accounting support as needed for a national, multi-entity, multi-location company. The Director of Accounting oversees the general ledger, accounts payable / receivable, fixed assets, and consolidation functions while partnering closely with the VP of Finance, CFO, FP&A, and Operations. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise, leadership skills, and a thorough understanding of financial systems and process improvement in a complex organization.

This is a Full-time on-site leadership role, located in our Albany, OR MEI Industrial Services Corporate Office. Relocation assistance is offered for the selected candidate as applicable.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance of internal policies and controls, including accounting policies and procedures, data integrity, asset protection, segregation of duties, budgeting, financial reporting, information systems and adherence to corporate policies and U.S. GAAP.
  • Manage consolidation of multiple legal entities and newly acquired companies, including intercompany eliminations.
  • Lead and develop a team of 20 - 30 accounting professionals, including managers, senior accountants, and accounting specialists.
  • Ensure monthly and yearly close cycle is performed accurately, efficiently, and on time with a strong system of internal controls.
  • Communicate with regional and company leadership regarding financial information.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to establish financial standards, share best practices and drive continuous process improvement.
  • Extract, review, analyze and compile information from a variety of financial and non-financial systems.
  • Understand and apply correct accounting treatment to complex accounting such as revenue recognition (ASC 606) and leases (ASC 842).
  • Own trial balance and subledger monthly balancing and review.
  • Perform financial data analysis to track, monitor and assess financial progress of the organization.
  • Analyze accounts and transactions, prepare, review, and approve journal entries and accruals, and lead account reconciliations.
  • Generate reports for distribution and presentation to Senior Management, Regional Office Management, and the Board of Directors.
  • Provide support for financial audits and other audits as needed.
  • Develop recommendations to optimize company's accounting systems and procedures and detect inaccuracies, ensuring that all procedures comply with GAAP requirements.
  • Support and strengthen MEI's Accounting training program by drafting and maintaining accounting policies and procedures to support scalability amid continued company growth.
Minimum Qualifications (Experience, Skills, and Education):
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field required.
  • CPA or MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience required, including at least 5 years of Controller-level accounting leadership experience.
  • Experience in a multi-entity environment or similarly sized company (1000 - 5000 employees and $500M - $1.5 B revenue).
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting standards.
  • Extensive practical experience in an ERP platform (Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O preferred) and other accounting support systems.
  • Strategic and analytical mindset with high attention to detail.
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process.
  • Leadership presence and comfortable driving change and automation.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for cross-department collaboration.
