Role Summary

A leading provider of long-term care (skilled nursing) and short-term rehabilitation services isseeking a Corporate Staff Attorney. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual to gain broad in-house corporate legal experience within the complex and dynamic healthcare industry. The ideal candidate will be a corporate attorney who thrives in a fast-paced environment and possesses exceptional organizational skills.

Responsibilities

The Corporate Staff Attorney will support the Legal Department across a wide range of operational and compliance matters, with responsibilities falling into the following key areas:

A. General Corporate Work & Administration

  • Corporate Housekeeping: Perform foundational corporate duties, including preparing meeting minutes, maintaining essential corporate records, and preparing presentations for the governing body.
  • Corporate Filings: Draft official corporate announcements and manage the timely filing of corporate documents with various state regulatory agencies.
  • Risk Management: Assist in developing and implementing strategies to mitigate organizational risk across multiple jurisdictions and operational areas.
  • Policy Review: Review and provide essential legal advice on a variety of corporate and operational matters.
B. Litigation Management
  • Oversight and Strategy: Manage a diverse portfolio of litigation, coordinating strategies with outside counsel and internal teammates to conduct thorough investigations and defend against claims.
  • Discovery and Evidence: Facilitate and verify responses to discovery requests. Initiate and monitor efforts to ensure the preservation of evidence (i.e., litigation holds) following relevant legal triggers.
  • Legal Notices: Coordinate timely and accurate responses to subpoenas and various legal notices.
  • Reporting: Track litigation progress, manage deadlines, and review/summarize salient points of legal pleadings for executive review.
  • Dispute Resolution: Negotiate settlements and attend Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) proceedings (e.g., mediation, arbitration) as required.
C. Regulatory & Employee Matters
  • Multi-Jurisdictional Advice: Review and provide counsel on complex regulatory and legal matters across the numerous jurisdictions where the organization operates.
  • Internal Investigations: Conduct objective internal investigations related to various employee and operational issues.
  • EEOC/OCR Response: Draft comprehensive position statements in response to claims filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the Office for Civil Rights (OCR).
Qualifications
  • Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school is required.
  • Experience: 1 to 2 years of experience practicing law is required.

    • Experience in a corporate setting or in-house experience is a strong plus.
    • Experience with healthcare law or the long-term care industry is preferred, but not required.
  • Residency: Preference will be given to candidates who reside in the Louisville, Kentucky area or are willing to relocate.
  • Skills & Abilities:

    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of management and employees.
    • Highly skilled in using computers and the Microsoft Office suite of applications.
    • Must be exceptionally accurate, concise, and detail-oriented.
    • Proven ability to strictly maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive information.
