Job Description Job Description Description: Job SummaryThe Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for leading the evaluation, design, and implementation of slope stabilization solutions on complex and high-risk sites. This role manages projects from initial site investigation through construction, performing geotechnical analysis, developing stabilization systems, and ensuring safe and effective execution in the field. The position combines hands-on fieldwork with advanced engineering design, requiring expertise in slope stability, drainage control, and construction methods to protect infrastructure, property, and public safety.Supervisory Responsibilities:None.Key Responsibilities:Site Investigations & Field AssessmentsConduct detailed hillside and slope evaluationsOversee drilling, sampling, and soil/rock testingAnalyze soil composition, shear strength, and groundwater conditionsSlope Stability & Risk AnalysisPerform slope stability modeling and landslide hazard evaluationsIdentify critical slip surfaces and failure mechanisms using industry standard softwareEngineering Design & SolutionsDesign innovative stabilization systems such as:Retaining walls (gravity, cantilever, anchored)Soil nailing and tieback systemsGround anchors, geogrids, and reinforced earthDevelop practical, constructible designs tailored to site constraintsHydrology & Drainage ControlDesign surface and subsurface drainage systems to reduce pore water pressure and erosionIntegrate long term water management into stabilization strategiesConstruction OversightProvide construction observation and supportVerify grading, benching, keying, and re compaction operationsCollaborate with contractors to ensure designs are executed safely and accuratelyTechnical Reporting & DocumentationPrepare clear, professional engineering reports, plans, specifications, and feasibility studiesCommunicate findings and recommendations to clients, municipalities, and project teamsWorking ConditionsThis position is primarily on-site, with a work schedule determined by the supervisor. The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of the role. While performing job duties, the employee is frequently required to move within office environments and outdoor field locations, including navigating uneven, steep, or unstable terrain such as hillsides, graded surfaces, and active construction sites. The role may require maintaining balance, traversing loose or shifting ground, and safely accessing hard-to-reach areas. The employee must also be able to communicate effectively to exchange accurate information in various settings. This position regularly involves operating a computer and standard office equipment, such as a computer and copy machine.Requirements: Required Skills/Abilities:Proven experience with hillside stabilization methods and construction means & methodsProficiency with slope stability modeling and analysis softwareStrong field experience and comfort working on active construction sitesAbility to prepare high quality technical reports and construction documentsFamiliarity with local building codes and jurisdictional requirementsSolid understanding of the following stabilization methods: soil nailing and anchored systems, retaining walls and buttresses, grading, benching, engineered earthwork, drainage and erosion-control systems, vegetative and bio-engineering solutionsEducation and Experience:Bachelor's degree in geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, or a related field.Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain.Background in geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, or a related field is required.Regulated utility industry experience preferred.
